When I recently visited the island of Mahé in Seychelles, and was (again) pleasantly surprised at how many great places to stay are there.
I’ve stayed in 5 different places on the largest island in the Seychelles, and inside this where to stay in Mahe guide, you will find the best Mahé hotels, that will suit all budgets.
BEST MAHé STAY
luxurious place to stay on MAHE ISLAND
One of the best luxury hotels in Seychelles on the south end of Mahe offering stunning views. Indulge in spa, and delicious cuisine, or book a private helicopter flight to see the island from above.
Book your stay today
For many, Mahé is a starting point for their trip to the Seychelles, and exploring other Seychelles islands, Praslin and La Digue.
Most probably, you will stay on the island for a night or two, when arriving or before leaving this island archipelago.
The biggest granitic island of Seychelles offers a variety of accommodation options; from luxury hotels to guesthouses. You can book your stay in the north in Beau Vallon, close to the airport, or in a more secluded part of the island.
Below, you’ll find my picks for the best hotels in Mahé.
FRIENDLY REMINDER
Never leave for a trip without travel insurance. Unexpected issues can arise so I suggest using insurance that covers people from all over the world, while outside their home country. You can buy this travel insurance even if you are already abroad.

Where to stay on Mahé Island
Mahé is the largest island in Seychelles. It is 27 km (17 mi) long and 8 km (5 mi) wide, so where you stay depends on what you want to do and how you plan to get around.
There are various places to stay on Mahé all around the island. Accommodations range from exclusive luxury resorts on the south end of Mahé to budget-friendly guesthouses in the north.
Public transport can take you to some areas, but renting a car is recommended, especially for more remote spots. Car will also come in handy if you plan to visit some of the most popular things to do in Mahé.
Below I mention the most popular areas for staying on Mahe Island. Mostly the ones with the most tourist infrastructure and restaurants, but also more remote places for a peaceful escape.
For private island stays, check out my other article on the best luxury hotels in Seychelles.
● Beau Vallon
Located on the northwest coast, Beau Vallon is the most popular area to stay.
I’ve stayed here many times, and it’s perfect if you want to be close to the Seychelles Internationsl Airport while enjoying a lively atmosphere with plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops nearby. The long Beau Vallon beach in Mahé is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and water sports, making it a great spot for families, couples, or anyone looking for a balance of relaxation and activities.
● Victoria and Eden Island
Victoria, one of the world’s smallest capitals, is home to local markets, museums, and landmarks like the clock tower and botanical gardens. Staying here puts you close to the ferry terminal and airport, with good public transport options for getting around.
Just offshore, Eden Island, Seychelles’ version to Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah, offers a more upscale, modern experience. It’s a modern contrast to the rest of the island, with cosmopolitan vibes while still being close to Victoria.
● Anse Royale
Located on the southeast coast of Mahé, Anse Royale is a charming town with a long, curving beach that’s perfect for swimming and snorkeling, especially in the calmer waters around the offshore reef. The area has a laid-back, local feel, with a few small restaurants and shops. The same-named beach is one of the safest for swimming, making this a great family-friendly area.
● South End (Anse Intendance and Anse Takamaka)
The southern end of Mahé is where you’ll find some of the island’s most beautiful, untouched beaches and island resorts. Staying here means you’ll be far from the busier northern parts of the island and main island attractions, so renting a car (or a private driver) is a must.
Anse Intendance is a wide, wild bay with strong waves, making it ideal for surfing but not always great for swimming due to rough waters.
Nearby, Anse Takamaka offers a more sheltered experience, with calm waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. This area is quiet and less developed, perfect if you are seeking seclusion and quieter beaches.
● West Coast (Port Glaud and Port Launay)
The West Coast is less developed and more tranquil, offering a more off-the-beaten-path experience.
Port Glaud is known for its beautiful beaches like Port Launay, great for snorkeling, and is close to Sauzier waterfall and the nearby Morne Seychellois National Park.
FRIENDLY REMINDER
You must have all of your Seychelles accommodation booked BEFORE coming to Seychelles. At immigration and when boarding a ferry, you will be asked where you’re staying. If you don’t have it booked, you will be asked to do it at the airport.
