Uluru, a sacred place for Indigenous Australians and Australia’s most iconic landmark, is located in the Australian outback. Around 6 hours drive from Alice Springs, so facilities are limited and rooms book out quickly.
For many, witnessing the sunrise and sunset over Uluru is the highlight of their Australian outback adventure. There are plenty of things to do, so you will most probably stay near Uluru for a night or two.
No matter if you are a first-time visitor to Australia, planning your Australian itinerary or a returning traveler eager to explore Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon, this guide is for you.
To save you some time and stress, I have prepared the best options on where to stay at Uluru, so you can focus on the experience, landscape, and everything that makes this trip worth it. Find the best accommodation options below.
FRIENDLY REMINDER
Never leave for a trip without travel insurance. Unexpected issues can arise so I suggest using insurance that covers people from all over the world, while outside their home country. You can buy this travel insurance even if you are already abroad.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
● Book your Uluru accommodation well in advance as rooms fill up quickly due to limited options, especially during peak season.
● Stay near Uluru inside Ayers Rock Resort at Yulara, Northern Territory, where you’ll find various options, from a luxury desert resort to budget-friendly campgrounds, that are all within easy reach of the national park.
● Distances in the Red Centre are vast, so being close to the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, sacred land of Aboriginal Anangu people, the traditional owners of the land, saves time and maximizes your chances to catch both sunrise and sunset over Uluru without long drives.

Where to stay at Uluru
Uluru is a remote place that can be reached from anywhere in Australia.
What you need to know about staying at Uluru is that the accommodation options below — except for Longitude 131° — are owned by Voyages. These properties are part of Ayers Rock Resort but operate under different brand names. This is also where I stayed.
Because of this monopoly, staying near the Uluru can be expensive.
By staying here, you’ll be perfectly positioned to make the most of your trip and enjoy all the best things to do at Uluru, truly experiencing the Red Centre without wasting time on long drives.
While the hotels are close to Uluru, you can’t simply walk from them to the base. You will need to use the resort shuttle, join a tour, or drive yourself. Before your visit, you will also need to purchase a Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park pass.
Below I mention the best places to stay near Uluru, from 5-star luxury accommodation like Longitude 131° to self-catering apartments, lodges, and simple campgrounds under the stars.

Sails in the Desert is one of the best luxury hotels near Uluru and the perfect choice for a stylish outback escape. Part of Ayers Rock Resort, it is consistently rated highly on Tripadvisor and offers a premium experience.
Here you can find a swimming pool and a full-service day spa. All rooms feature air conditioning, free WiFi, and a balcony or outdoor space to enjoy the desert air.
This hotel is ideal for those seeking comfort and convenience in the heart of the Red Centre. There are three room types: Superior Rooms and Terrace Rooms, both sleeping up to four guests, and Deluxe Rooms for two, complete with a spa bath.
Dining is a highlight at Sails in the Desert, with Ilkari Restaurant serving buffet-style breakfast and dinner in a brasserie setting. I’ve been a regular customer at their Walpa Lobby Bar offering casual meals, cocktails, and drinks throughout the day, which is right next to Mulgara Gallery, where you can buy some souvenirs.
Car parking is complimentary, but if you are here without a car (like me), you can use Uluru Hop-on-hop-off bus or any other tour that will pick you up right in front of the hotel.

I stayed at The Lost Camel on my last trip to Uluru, and I highly recommend it! You can read my hotel review for more details or check what others say on Tripadvisor.
This is a great mid-range Uluru hotel, perfect for solo travelers, if you’re looking for something modern and simple without splurging on a luxury resort.
The Lost Camel has stylish and comfortable rooms, with a refreshing swimming pool, and day beds. They don’t offer breakfast, and there’s no on-site restaurant, so you’ll need to head to the Town Square or pop over to nearby Sails in the Desert for dining (that is what I was doing).
It’s close to Town Square and within walking distance of shops, cafés, and tour pick-up points. If you are planning to explore the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Natipnal park with Hop-on-hop-off bus or with any of the tours, they will pick you up in front of the Sails in the Desert hotel.
Desert Gardens Hotel

If one of the things on your Australian bucket list is to wake up with the view of Uluru at sunset, then you should book a Deluxe Rock View Room at Desert Gardens Hotel.
This Uluru hotel offers a peaceful escape right in the heart of Yulara. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed, with air conditioning, free WiFi, and modern amenities. Some rooms come with the best Uluru view.
Desert Gardens has its own dining options, including Arnguli Grill for à la carte meals and Mangata Bistro & Bar for casual dining, so you don’t need to leave the property for great food. Both use Aussie products and Indigenous native plants.
There’s also a large swimming pool surrounded by shaded areas, perfect for cooling off after a day of exploring.
Emu Walk Apartments

Emu Walk Apartments are the best choice for where to stay near Uluru if you’re traveling with family, a group of friends, or simply want more space and the convenience of self-catering.
The fully equipped one- and two-bedroom apartments feature kitchens, living and dining areas, air conditioning, and free WiFi. This is perfect and gives you the flexibility to prepare your own meals and feel at home in the Red Centre.
Each apartment has beautiful Indigenous artworks, and a private balcony or patio for enjoying the desert air after a day of sightseeing.
There is no restaurant at Emu Walk Apartments, but you can walk to the Town Square or use the Ayers Rock shuttle bus, so you can go to the shops, cafés, or a supermarket for stocking up on supplies.

Outback Hotel and Lodge is the most budget-friendly place to stay near Uluru, perfect if you’re looking for simple accommodation without the high price tag.
The Outback hotel offers basic motel-style rooms, while the Outback lodge dormitory accommodation is perfect for solo travelers, couples on a budget, or backpackers. Rooms are air-conditioned and comfortable, with shared facilities available for the dorm options. They have a pool.
It’s the furthest hotel from the Town Square, but you can use a free Ayers Rock resort shuttle bus to get there. One of the highlights is a short walk to the Uluru lookout. Here you can enjoy incredible views of Uluru and Kata Tjuta at sunrise or sunset without leaving Yulara.
There’s also an on-site bar and bistro serving delicious meals. You can have a buffet-style breakfast or dinner at Bough House, grab quick bites like pizzas, burgers, or fish and chips at the Outback Kiosk, or have some fun at the Outback BBQ and Bar, where you can cook your own barbecue with all the ingredients provided. I also loved their live music night!
Ayers Rock Resort Campground

You can’t camp inside Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, so your closest option is Ayers Rock Campground, located in Yulara.
This is the most affordable way to stay near Uluru and perfect if you’re traveling by campervan, caravan, or love the idea of sleeping under the stars.
The campground offers powered and unpowered sites, along with air-conditioned cabins if you’d rather have four walls without paying hotel prices. Facilities include a swimming pool, BBQ areas, a camp kitchen, and laundry.
A free resort shuttle bus connects the campground to Yulara’s Town Square for shopping and dining. You’re also just a short walk from the Uluru lookout, where you can admire the sunrise and sunset over Uluru at Kata Tjuta for free.
