Where are Seychelles islands located

When trying to find Seychelles on a map, you must first find the east coast of Africa.

Now, look to the southeast (to the right) of Africa, and you’ll find a large island called Madagascar.

Then you can look up for Seychelles archipelago, located in the Western Indian Ocean. 

The main islands of Seychelles are located around 1,600 km (1000 mi) east of the African continent, around 1000 km (660 mi) northeast of Madagascar, around 1750 km (1092 mi) north of Mauritius, and around 2140 km (1330 mi) west from the Maldives.

Seychelles is located 4° and 11° South of the Equator and 46° and 56° East of the Prime Meridian. There is no daylight saving time and is 4 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +4).

The total land area of the smallest African country is 455 km² (175 mi²).

The best time to visit is during two calmer periods between the two trade winds shift.

Seychelles are geologically unique. They are granitic islands and not volcanic. The islands of the Seychelles are a microcontinent that once formed a supercontinent Gondwana.

Seychelles has a population of around 100.000 people, where 90% live on the main island of Mahe. A large percentage of the population is of Creole descent, usually from French colonial settlers and African slave laborers.

Seychelles consists of 115 islands divided into two groups – Inner and Outer islands. Inner islands are the most visited and inhabited ones.

The most visited islands of Seychelles are Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue.

The largest two islands are the uninhabited Aldabra Atoll, UNESCO World Heritage site and home of Giant Aldabra tortoises, and the main island Mahé with 157 km² (61 mi²).

The Island of Mahé is the most important island, often the first stop for visitors. It’s home to the capital, Victoria, and Seychelles International Airport. Most of the country’s population lives here.

Praslin and La Digue are the two most popular islands. Praslin known for Vallée de Mai and La Digue for Anse Source D’Argent. Both are known for their beautiful beaches and laid-back vibe.
