To find Malta on a map, start by looking at Europe.

Locate Italy and then find the southern tip of Italy, especially the island of Sicily. Just 93 km (58 miles) south of Sicily lies the Maltese archipelago, made up of three main islands: Malta, Gozo, and Comino.

These islands are situated in the central Mediterranean Sea – about 300 km (186 miles) north of Libya, 290 km (180 miles) east of Tunisia, and approximately 1,800 km (1,120 miles) from mainland Greece.

Though small in size, the Maltese Islands are perfectly positioned between Europe and North Africa.

Malta is located between 35° and 36° North of the Equator and 14° and 15° East of the Prime Meridian, right in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea.

Time in Malta is one hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC +1). During summer, Malta observes daylight saving time. So from the last Sunday in March until the last Sunday in October, time in Malta is UTC +2.

Malta is one of Europe’s smallest countries and has a total land area of 316 km² (122 mi²).

The country enjoys around 300 sunny days per year, making it a year-round destination for sunseekers.

Malta has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The best times to visit Malta are in spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–November) when the weather is pleasant and crowds are fewer.

The Maltese archipelago is made up of three main islands: Malta, Gozo, and Comino – all made of limestone, without rivers, lakes or mountains.

The population is around 520,000, mostly living on the main island of Malta, particularly around the central and eastern regions. When visiting Malta, you can see the rich cultural blend of Maltese, Italian, British, and Arabic influences.
