Iorana! (Hi!) ¿Pē hē (a) koe? (How are you?) Do you want to visit Easter Island? Also known as Rapa Nui, this island in the Pacific Ocean is the most remote inhabited island in the world. It is famous for moai statues and is one of the most unique destinations you can visit. Interestingly, it is part of Chile, but culturally belongs to Polynesia.
Here you will find nearly 1000 moai statues, carved from volcanic rock at Rano Raraku and placed across the island on ceremonial platforms. Visit Ahu Tongariki at sunrise for the most famous view of the island or explore the crater lake at Rano Kau and the village of Orongo.
The island was named by Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen, who arrived here on Easter Sunday. Isla de Pascua, as it is known in Spanish, is often included in a Chile itinerary, even though it lies at one corner of the Polynesian Triangle, alongside New Zealand and Hawaii.
