Best Praslin beaches (an overview)

If you are short on time, here’s a quick overview of the best Praslin beaches and my top picks for the type of activity you are planning to do.

Most popular: Anse Lazio
Best snorkeling beach: Anse La Farine
Best swimming beach: Anse Lazio
Best family-friendly beach: Anse Volbert (Cote d’Or)
Hidden-gem beach: Anse Georgette (requires prior booking)*
Off the beaten path: Anse La Blague
Private atmosphere: Petite Anse Kerlan

GOOD TO KNOW
In general beaches in Seychelles are free to enter. However, some beaches are located on the property of the hotels (like Anse Georgette on the property of Constance Lemuria). If you’re not staying at the resort, you’ll need to arrange access in advance. This can usually be done by contacting the resort and booking a day pass or getting permission to visit the beach.

Best beaches on Praslin

Below you can find detailed descriptions for selected pristine beaches.

Everyone’s idea of a perfect beach is different, so I’ve listed them in a counter-clockwise order. Starting from the north tip and then going all around the island.

Describing them this way gives you an unbiased list, so you can easily pick your favorite one.

Petite Anse Lazio

Petite Anse Lazio is a small, secluded beach located on the North of Praslin.

It is just a short walk from the famous beach of Anse Lazio. You can get there by climbing the rocks (not suitable for flip-flops) or snorkeling from the right side of Anse Lazio. This hidden cove is less crowded than its more popular neighbor. It is great for swimming and snorkeling, but the waves can sometimes be a bit stronger, so caution is advised.

Make sure to visit at low tide, as at the high tide, there is not many beach left. Also, keep in mind there are no facilities nearby, so bring everything you need for the day.

Anse Lazio

Anse Lazio is one of the most famous beaches in the Seychelles, and it’s also my favorite.

Located on the northern coast of Praslin, it’s known for its picture-perfect scenery with powdery sand, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and the iconic boulders that frame the beach.

Anse Lazio is perfect for swimming and snorkeling, especially along the sides. There is usually a lifeguard on duty, but swimming at dusk and dawn is not recommended. It’s also a popular spot for photography and even beach weddings.

Aside from Lazio Beach Residence, which offers self-catering apartments, there are no large resorts nearby. However, you’ll find a couple of restaurants, like Mabuya Restaurant or Le Chevalier Bar Restaurant Anse Lazio at both ends of the beach, along with a small supermarket and a souvenir shop near the entrance.

It is a starting point for anyone wishing to go on Anse Lazio to Anse Georgette hike, one of the top things to do in Praslin.

Despite Anse Lazio being my favorite beach in Seychelles — and the fact that I’ve swum there many times — I want to give you some important information about Anse Lazio and Georgette.

Neither of these beaches is protected by a reef, so you might encounter waves when the tide changes. Also, both are known to be shark-pupping areas.

I don’t want to scare you, but there have been a few documented shark attacks at Anse Lazio. While shark-related incidents are extremely rare, it’s still important to be aware and follow the shark safety tips I’ve shared below.

During my visits, I only ever saw two small, harmless reef sharks, about 50 cm (20 in) long. So while I did swim without issue, it’s always a good idea to stay informed and cautious.

SHARK SAFETY TIPS:
• Swim close to shore and in waist-deep water.
• Avoid swimming too far off the shore, especially if you are alone.
• Avoid swimming at dawn and dusk (when the sharks are most active).
• Avoid swimming in areas where there are river outlets (where ocean and river mix sharks look for food).
• Avoid swimming where people are fishing.
• Avoid swimming where large schools of fish are present.
• Always swim or surf in groups! Never alone!

Anse Georgette

Anse Georgette is one of the most breathtaking and secluded beaches on Praslin, located within the grounds of one of the most luxurious hotels, Constance Lemuria Resort.

It is like a small version of Anse Lazio, with pristine white sand, clear turquoise waters, granite rocks on both sides and lush surroundings.

The beach is great for snorkeling and swimming, but waves can get stronger due to the absence of a coral reef, so caution is advised. Just like Anse Lazio, Anse Georgette is a shark-pupping area, so always make sure to follow shark safety tips.

To visit Anse Georgette, you’ll need to arrange permission in advance if you’re not staying at the Constance Lemuria Resort. You can do this by contacting the resort directly, either by phone or email, a day or two before your visit. From the resort to the beach is a 20 minute hike over the golf course.

For those interested in hiking, you can also reach Anse Georgette via a scenic hike from Anse Lazio, offering beautiful views along the way. This is what I did. Hike is around 1.5 hours long.

There are no facilities on the beach, but you can sometimes find some small stands selling fresh fruit and smoothies. It’s a good idea to bring water and snacks with you.

Petite Anse Kerlan

Petite Anse Kerlan is a beautiful beach located on the northwest coast of Praslin.

Like Anse Georgette, you’ll need to request permission from the luxurious Lemuria Resort to visit, as access involves crossing private land. It is often visited by the resorts guests, which keeps it quiet and exclusive.

With its shallow, calm waters, Petite Anse Kerlan is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and ideal for families with children. If you don’t have your own snorkeling gear, you can easily rent some from the hotel.

There’s also the Takamaka Beach Bar, but be sure to make a reservation at least a day in advance. I recommend booking both your beach access and bar spot at the same time for a seamless, relaxing experience.

Anse Kerlan

Anse Kelan is a collection of small beaches and a big sister to the previously mentioned Petite Anse Kerlan.

One of the best Praslin beaches is known for its soft white sand, crystal-clear waters, and granite boulders that give it the iconic charm. Anse Kerlan offers stunning views of Cousin and Cousine Islands and is one of the best beaches to watch sunset on Praslin.

The sea is usually calm, but the water deepens quickly, making it ideal for swimming. During calmer periods, snorkeling is possible, but in the rainy season, waves and currents can be stronger, making it a great spot for windsurfing.

Anse Kerlan Beach is close to the Praslin airport, if you are arriving with Air Seychelles, as well as several hotels and restaurants. The Lemuria resort is located nearby, and is within walking distance to Treasure island retreat, budget friendly accommodation in Praslin.

Grand Anse or Fond de l’Anse

Grand Anse, also known as Fond de l’Anse, is one of the longest beaches on the west coast of Praslin Island.

It is a wide beach with waist-deep waters that stretch far into the distance, making it ideal for long beach walks and stunning sunsets over the Indian Ocean.

While the beach is not as popular for swimming as other beaches on Praslin, it is great for windsurfing and kayaking. You can rent kitesurfing gear from the shops. Because of shallows and a lot of shade it is popular among families.

There are a lot of takeaways like Zilwa Reggae Bar and hotels along the beachfront, including the affordable Palm Beach Hotel. The hotel is a convenient choice if you want to enjoy a peaceful stay with the beach just steps away.

Anse la Farine

Quiet and secluded Anse La Farine is the best snorkeling beach on Praslin Island

This small beach is located on the southeastern coast, next to the now abandoned hotel New Emerald Cove. It has a perfect castaway vibe and is protected by a coral reef.

You can reach it by the sea or by a small trail from Anse La Blague. The boat ride takes around 10 minutes and the hike takes around 30 minutes. I recommend planning your trip, so you come to the beach at low tide, as during high tide most of the beach is under the sea.

There are no facilities, so do not forget to bring snacks, water and snorkeling gear, if you plan to stay here for a day.

Anse la Blague

Anse la Blague is a secluded and tranquil part of the coastline located on the southeastern coast of Praslin.

It is one of the less popular beaches and a bit harder to reach. Water at low tide is perfect for families with children, making it a safe spot for swimming and playing in the sand. It’s also a great spot for snorkeling, with rich marine life just off the shore. At high tide currents can get strong, so be cautious.

Anse La Blague offers stunning views of the neighboring Grande and Petite Soeur Islands. Nearby, you will find some charming guesthouses. To get here, you will have to drive past the Cinnamon Distillery (heritage ruins), which is one of the lesser-known things to do in Praslin.

Anse Volbert or Côte d’Or

Anse Volbert, also known as Côte d’Or, is probably one of the most well-known on this island.

Located on the eastern side of the island, it is famous for its iconic bent palm tree, soft white sand, and crystal-clear turquoise waters. The gentle waves and shallow waters make it a perfect spot for families, allowing kids to safely play along the shore.

Anse Volbert is also a fantastic location for water sports, including snorkeling, kayaking, (wind)surfing, and paddleboarding, with equipment available for rent from local shops.

Along Cote d’Or, you’ll find many accommodation options, including the elegant Hotel de Duc, which offers comfortable rooms and easy access to the beach.

For a more affordable stay, Chez Bea Luxury Villa provides a private stay, within walking distance to the beach. Additionally, Chauve Souris Relais offers themed rooms on a private island, only a short boat ride away from the beach.

Anse Boudin

Anse Boudin is a small, quiet beach located on the northeastern coast of the second largest island in the Seychelles.

Just like its small neighbor Anse Pasquière, it has shallow, calm waters and scenic views of nearby Curieuse Island

Anse Boudin is one of the less touristy beaches, where you can see the local fisherman. Due to its shallow waters, it’s not the best for swimming, but the water gets deeper at high tide. It’s great for snorkeling, fishing, and perfect for families with kids just enjoying time on the beach.

On a hillside between both beaches, you’ll find Raffles, one of the best luxury hotels in the Seychelles. Staying at Raffles gives you the chance to explore Praslin, like visiting Vallee de Mai, while enjoying upscale amenities and stunning views of the Indian Ocean.
