Hi, I’m Anja (read as Anya), a travel blogger and the founder of Anja on Adventure.
I love visiting places seen in movies, tropical island, sites with endless summer, and colorful destinations.
My goal is to visit every tropical destination in the world.
When I was small (read: younger, I’m still small ;)), I dreamed of being a tour guide, a stewardess, and a geography and history teacher. They all had one thing in common: exploring new places, learning about different cultures, and sharing my adventures and tips. Now, I did get 2 out of 3. I do have a Teaching Degree and a Tour Guide Licence. I did try to be a flight attendant but I am 1 cm too short, so I never made it (worked on a yacht instead). I comfort myself by saying that ‘all good things come in small packages’ – like diamonds or pearls.
My first solo trip was to New York, and in the last 15+ years, I’ve visited over 43 countries (some more than once) and lived in more than 5, including Samoa, Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand. Read more what you can expect from me and this page.

5 Interesting facts about me
My story
For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to travel.
I was born and raised in Slovenia. I grew up in a village with 350 people, where everybody knows everybody. The closest town has around 30.000 people and my country has around 2 million.
To put things in perspective, the well-known Wembley Stadium has a capacity of 90.000 people, and more than 2,2 million people are living in Brisbane, Australia, and Huston, United States.
With my parents and brother, we never really traveled together for sightseeing. In winter, we went skiing in Slovenia, and in summer we holidayed on the Croatian coast.
My first trip abroad was with my aunt in a campervan. We visited Italy, Switzerland, and the South of France. After that, I traveled by train with my grandma to Munich, Germany, to visit her brother.
At that time, there was also a quiz TV show for primary school kids. Their ad said that anyone who participated in the show would get a trip to Venice. So, of course, I applied and I went to Venice. Mission accomplished.
Where I’ve been
I’ve visited over 43 countries (some more than once) and lived in more than 5. You can’t see all of them on the map below, since Fiji, Seychelles, Samoa, and some other places are too small for this map. Like Barbados, Malta, Zanzibar, or even Hong Kong and Singapore.
My travel beginnings
Travel is the best education anyone can have.
The world of traveling and adventures started happening while I was studying Geography and History for my teaching degree. During that time I visited Morocco, the UK, Portugal, Turkey, Balkan countries forming Ex-Yugoslavia (Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Macedonia), Hungary, Italy, Austria, Greece, and others.
Soon after that came my first solo travel to New York City, USA. I visited New York in December, at Christmas time, and spent 10 days exploring Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Long Island. Even though I broke my camera and only have 1 photo from NYC, the experience left such a strong impression on me, that I fell in love with traveling even more.
Bitten by the travel bug
Once the travel bug bites, there is no known antidote.
After returning from New York, the travel bug had firmly sunk its teeth into me. I decided to take my passion further, for a cabin crew on Emirates (was rejected for being too short), and earned my tour guiding license (find me in the Register of Tourist Guides).
Not long after, I moved to New Zealand, where I lived for a year. During my time there, I’ve spent most of my time in Fox Glacier and Lake Tekapo, surrounded by some of the most stunning natural landscapes I’ve ever seen.
While living in New Zealand, I explored both the South and North Island of New Zealand. I hiked in Abel Tasman, swam in Kaikoura, got an adrenaline rush in Queenstown, admired Milford Sound, visited a movie set in Hobbiton, experienced the geothermal wonders of Rotorua, and met Māori.
This was the time, I got the idea for my travel blog.
The adventure begins
When traveling, expect the unexpected.
In between my New Zealand adventures, I flew to Samoa to celebrate my birthday. I have a tradition of celebrating my birthday in a different country each year as a special treat to myself.
The lack of proper travel planning had an unexpected turn into an exciting opportunity with the TV crew for the reality TV show Survivor. Because of it, I was able to live in the tropical islands of Fiji and Samoa. This is where I found my love for tropical destinations was solidified.
As part of the production requirements, we needed to know our blood types. That is where the idea for the logo came to life. The ‘O’ and the ‘line’ are a result of my blood group, which is O-. The name for it came from a cameramen, when I described my crazy flight itinerary coming from Slovenia to Samoa.
The travel blog Anja On Adventure was ‘born’.
The journey unfolds
Something that I know, many of you are interested in.
My lifelong dream is to live in Australia. Before I moved there for 2.5 years, I traveled all around. From Sydney to Melbourne, Great Ocean Road to Uluru, and back down the East Coast.
When living in Australia, I spent most of my time in tropical Queensland. First I lived in Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays, and later in Cairns. Besides exploring the Great Barrier Reef, and sailing around the Whitsunday Islands, I was a part of the Peter Pans Team.
I crafted travel itineraries for people exploring Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.
With the Covid hit, I moved back to Europe. Then where I continued writing custom travel itineraries but this time for European destinations. After the pandemic, I started guiding and crafting trips for a travel agency Nasmeh.
As my extensive travel experiences became more recognized, people began asking me to plan their trips and inquiring about my travel planning services. So here is what you can expect from me.
